WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
INTRODUCTION TO WORSHIP THEME
CALL TO WORSHIP:
Lent calls us to journey, this and every day,
following the way of Jesus.
Lent calls us to journey to the place of self-emptying
and humble obedience to death on the cross.
Lent calls us to deep hope with the One
who raised us up with Christ.
Lent calls each of us to take up our cross,
to trust the One who bears it with us.
Lent calls us to journey with God.
Let us worship the One who calls us to a deep hope.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
God, you call us to deep hope as we embark on the final journey to the cross.
We join the crowds to welcome you into Jerusalem
but are surprised that you do not live up to our expectations.
So, in confession we pray:
God, we remember how fickle we are,
how we pledge our devotion one moment and turn our backs the next.
We go from shouting “Hosanna! Save Us!” to “Crucify Him.”
We declare that we love our neighbours
and then we turn our backs on the homeless and hungry in our communities.
We speak up for change and justice in one breath,
and then continue unjust practices in daily lives
by what we consume and the needs we ignore.
Restore us, and renew us for the journey of faith,
so that we might become whole people
who live wholly into your vision of new life. Amen
