On the Road to Revelation

This Sunday we are on the road with Mary.  We are on the road to revelation.  Revelation means to uncover something that was previously hidden.  God comes to young Mary with an outlandish promise of salvation for the world.  Mary responds to the promise with simple trust, and, as a result, play a role in God’s plan of salvation.  During this Advent season, let us also be open to the possibility that nothing is impossible with God.  Let’s also respond with simple trust and be open to playing a role in God’s plan of salvation.

On the road to Restoration

On this third Sunday of Advent, we are on the road with Mary, mother of Jesus. We are on the road to restoration. In the Magnificat, Mary sings her hopes for the coming of God’s Reign, and the restoration she envisions is a complete reversal of the world as we know it. It’s a world where God will make all things right (justice). Restoration requires transformational changes that will be disruptive.

On the Road to Repentance

This second Sunday of Advent, we are on the road with Mark. Being on the road requires waiting. Today we are waiting for God’s arrival. John the Baptist preaches Good News about the coming of an active, intervening, living God who will make things right in the world. To see and hear God’s advent, we need to, get rid of the things that bind us, remove our blinders, un-stop our ears, and be open to God’s arrival. We need to turn around. We need to repent.
